SANIL CHAWLA

Founder & Executive Director, Hack+

PANEL, TIE YOUTH

Sanil is a high-school entrepreneur, programmer, designer, filmmaker, and leader. He is a passionate member of many diverse communities, and constantly strives to improve the world around him by leaving a positive impact on people everywhere. Realizing how difficult it is for high school students to start ventures, he founded and serves as the Executive Director at Hack+ (hackplus.io), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps students start businesses, nonprofits, and events. Hack+ impacts over 75,000 students annually, and receives funding and support from companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon. Sanil is passionate about improving computer science education in the US and worldwide, which he works towards as Global Growth Director at SRND.org, a nonprofit that runs events like CodeDay.org all across the nation. He works directly with large teams in over 40 cities to grow programs/teams in each region. Sanil enjoys directing and editing films that deliver positive messages surrounding important social issues. Recently, he directed "20 Minutes", a film providing an insightful story on the life of a sexual abuse victim, closely following the real story of the Brock Turner incident at Stanford. Within his school community, he serves as President for the Class of 2018 and the Student Body Tech Head at Mission San Jose HS. Furthermore, he serves as a leader of several clubs/groups on campus, including the MSJ Mental Health Committee. Sanil's work has been recognized with several national awards including the President's Volunteer Service Award from President Obama and a Forbes 30 Under 30 nomination.
